How 'Bout A Clam Bake

I didn't know you could bake clams. But I guess you can. Or it actually doesn't mean you bake them. You kinda steam them.

Anyway, Susan received some fresh clams and lobster from New England during her birthday, and she stunk up my house those nasty critters. But she loved them. Goody.

Here's a before and after pic of Mr. Crabs....(she said they were screaming "HELP, HELP!" while she was lowering them into the boiling water! I told you she was mean!

  • That clambake looks delicious!

Yes, you can "bake" clams, but you are right, they are really steamed and not baked.

The American Indians used to have clambakes on the New England Coastline. They would dig a hole in the sand, heat up rocks and then place the rocks in the hole, put a layer of seaweed, throw in the lobsters, shellfish as well as veggies (potatoes and corn etc.) cover that up with another layer of seaweed, put more hot rocks on top of that and cover it all up to cook.

So it does "bake" in the sand...

Today it is much easier to throw it all into a stock pot and cook it on the stove... Much easier, faster, and definitely easier. No more digging holes in the sand.

I get my New England Clambakes as well as any other seafood from http://www.qualityfreshseafood.com and have been very happy with it.

Congrats on the b-day present and those lobsters sure looked tasty!!!
